She-Ra script: "Into Etheria" #5

For your entertainment I present to you the rarely seen final script for "Into Etheria"; the very first episode of the She-Ra series. Reading through Larry DiTillio's script you will see a show that is still very much in development. Certain pieces of dialogue were either rewritten or removed during the actual production of the episode. You will also see some interesting notes about characters and locations during some of the scene directions. I will try to point out the more notable things during each post. Here are pages twenty to twenty-four of the script. Act two begins and the messenger is "rewarded" for giving Hordak the news...

"Island of Terror" #3

Here I present pages ten to thirteen of an action-packed story from issue seventy-two of the UK Masters of the Universe comic. This issue, featuring the story "Island of Terror", was actually the last issue of the regular series. After this issue only Masters of the Universe Adventure was published. I love the way in which a frustrated Skeletor decides to send the mysterious floating island to its destruction in order to eliminate the heroes!

"Island of Terror" #1

Here I present the first four pages of an action-packed story from issue seventy-two of the UK Masters of the Universe comic. This issue, featuring the story "Island of Terror", was actually the last issue of the regular series. After this issue only Masters of the Universe Adventure was published. It is good to see Stratos appear in this story as he vanished for quite some time from the UK comics, and even more so when the style changed as of issue fifty.

A brief review #006 - "Teela's Quest"

As many of you will know, in 2010 I published The unofficial cartoon guide to He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. At 300+ pages the book features 700+ pieces of trivia, 460+ deleted scenes, 360+ examples of animation reuse, 380+ quotes, 50+ abandoned episodes, and a LOT more! It is the book that NO fan of the Filmation series can live without! BUY IT NOW!

As an incentive, here is my brief review and rating (as they appear in the book) for "Teela's Quest"...

It is hard to review an episode that transcends the series it was written for. This episode is the first to establish the show as a different kind of action-adventure series; one in which the characters care for one another, and have personalities laced with history. The relationship between the Sorceress and her daughter Teela is what makes the story absolutely unforgettable; their meeting proving to be one the most beautiful scenes in the series. This episode is also a testament to the voice talent of Linda Gary who voices Queen Marlena, the Sorceress, and Teela, all with warmth. This episode above all others will live in our hearts when the series has long since faded from our minds. 10/10

Now, may I ask; what is YOUR rating?

A unique moral segment!

In the episode "He-Fan" from The New Adventures of He-Man, we are treated to a unique moral segment. The uniqueness stems from the fact that it features its own mini story with a near conclusion. We first see Flipshot and Spinwit attempting to look at some giant eggs in a nest, atop a large rock structure. They try and talk Adam into tagging along, but he wants no part of it. As Adam talks to the audience, Flipshot and Spinwit make their way over to the rock formation. The next thing we see is the two of them in the clutches of a creature! As the moral ends, Adam unsheathes the Sword of Power, talks to the audience once more, and the segment ends. Firstly, I like the idea that this is a short story in a moral segment; secondly I love the idea that we never see the conclusion to this story, but we are certain that He-Man will save the day! It is a shame that more episodes did not do this...

"The Siren Fish of Etheria" #3

Here are the remaining three pages from "The Siren Fish of Etheria", a story that appeared in issue six of the UK Princess of Power comic. The conclusion of this story is very impressive, as are the last two panels which are somewhat bittersweet, as Mermista waits patiently...
